In the first 5 months of 2018 foreign tourists who visited Sofia were 5% more compared to the same period in 2017.

According to the information that Sofia Tourism Administration received from accommodation establishments regarding guests and overnight stays, in the first 5 months of 2018 the number of foreign tourists increased by 5%. Sofia was visited by around 530,000 tourists (both Bulgarians and foreigners) and over 944,000 overnight stays were realized in the city.

Tourists from Italy, Greece, Germany, Great Britain and Israel were the greatest in number. These countries are traditional tourism-generating markets for Sofia. There was a slight decline in the number of tourists from Great Britain and the United States compared to the same period last year.

The number of tourists from some distant markets increased significantly in percentage terms, even though their overall number is still not that impressive. The number of tourists from China increased by 15% (6400 people) and from Japan - by 55% (3500 people).

For the first time this year, people from Lithuania (by 48%), Latvia (by 80%) and Estonia (by 86%) significantly increased their interest in Sofia.
