On June 25-26 Sofia hosted the WEBIT. FESTIVAL Europe under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, the European Commissioner Digital Agenda and Society and the Mayor of Sofia. This year Webit.Festival welcomed over 6000 attendees from over 110 countries including political leaders from Europe and the rest of the world - heads of states, EU commissioners, ministers, mayors, members of the European Parliament, world’s enterprise leaders, global and European founders and entrepreneurs, innovators, scientists and digital economy experts. The event brought together the top 200 startup companies in Europe.
At the festival Sofia Tourism Administration had its own information desk where it presented Sofia as a tourist destination. It was part of SOFIA’s PLACE booth located next to the entrance. The visitors that stopped by SOFIA’s PLACE received information materials about Sofia and ideas on what to visit during their stay in the city. People were also able to see realistic 3D models of Saint Sophia Basilica and the Boyana Church. They were created on the initiative of Sofia Tourism Administration with the aim of popularizing tourist sites through new technology. Visitors could take a virtual walk in both churches and examine their murals. This interactive app was also used by the Mayor of Sofia – Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova, who stopped by SOFIA’s PLACE at the opening of the festival. At SOFIA’s PLACE booth were held various presentations and business meetings including ones with representatives of the cities of Vienna and Gothenburg.
