Stolichen Autotransport EAD with new electric buses

Thursday, 31 August 2017

On August 23, Stolichen Autotransport launched a procedure for the purchase of 20 new electric buses - the first electric buses in the public transport of Sofia. Following its sustainable development strategy for preserving the natural resources of the city, Sofia chooses “a green way of life” and an ecological transport. This is demonstrated by the construction of Sofia Metro as well as the new electric vehicles.

From August 11 to September 10, Solaris Urbino 12 Electric – test Polish buses, operate on trolleybus routes in Sofia. This is a low-floor bus that has lithium-ion batteries and space for 30 seated and 40 standing passengers. The battery capacity gives the vehicles a range of 200 km.

Sofia Airport, however, surpassed the public transport and as of August 07, 2017 an electric bus transports passengers between the two terminals. Apart from being ecological (it does not emit carbon dioxide and replaced diesel vehicles) the electric bus is completely free for passengers.
