141 unforgettable years since the Liberation of Bulgaria

On March 3, 2019 we will celebrate 141 years since the Liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule. On this memorable day in 1878 was signed the San Stefano Peace Treaty between Russia and the Ottoman empire which put an end to the Russo-Turkish war (1877 – 1878) and established the Third Bulgarian Tsardom. At Alexander Nevsky Cathedral Church in the capital, after a Holy Mass at 10 o’clock, a memorial and thanksgiving service will be held in honor of the National Holiday. The official ceremony of raising the national flag and a solemn ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers will take place at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier at 11 o’clock. Each year an official celebration of the National Holiday is organized by the Municipality of Sofia, Alexander Nevski Association of Friends of Russia and the Heroes of Bulgaria foundation. It takes place at 11:45 in front of the Monument of Bulgarian volunteers in the capital.
