The Scars of War: The Lost Architectural Heritage of Sofia

The National History Museum presents immersive space “The Scars of War: The Lost Architectural Heritage of Sofia”. The exhibition will run until end of December.

With sensory impulses, authentic video footage, photo archives and emblematic exhibits, the visitor will be “immersed” in the period before and during the bombings, will wander through the calm and beautiful pre-war Sofia, will witness the devastating blow that war inflicted on the city and will experience the fate of the hundreds people who lost their homes. The memories of eyewitnesses, recreated by famous Bulgarian actors will complete the narrative about some of the most dramatic days of the Bulgarian capital.

The project “The Scars of War: The Lost Architectural Heritage of Sofia” was brought to life in partnership with the Bulgarian National Film Archives, and funded by the “Culture” program of Sofia Municipality.

The exhibition presents the many ways that the “Pathways to the table” have evolved in Bulgaria through time. The exhibition consists of the following thematic collections: Sheep and goat breeding, Horticulture, Apiculture, and etc. With the current exhibition presents, the National Ethnographic Museum the traditional way of life and culture of Bulgarian nation. Pathways to the table will run until September 30, 2021.

The Army in Times of Change

The National Museum of Military History presents the exhibition “The Army in Times of Change”
The exhibition traces the development of the Bulgarian Army over the past 30 years. The event is realised on the occasion of the 141 st anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Defence and the 104 th anniversary of the foundation of the National Museum of Military History.

Three architects - jubilarians

The exhibition presents three important architects: Naum Torbov, Lazar Parashkevanov and Petso Zlatev, whose birth anniversary we celebrate in 2020. What they all have in common is that all of them received their education abroad. After that, they returned and joined the cultural and social life of Sofia.
They worked in different periods and created works that are part of the history of Bulgarian architecture. Through their work we can trace the architectural styles of the city - from neo-Byzantine, through secession, to modernism.
Among some of the most famous buildings by the three architects are the National Opera and Ballet, Lozenets Residence, the Central Sofia Market Hall, the Sofia Municipality Building at 33 Moskovska Street, Hemus Hotel, the National Assembly building (the former Party House), Georgi Asparuhov Stadium and others.

Impulse and Light – the motto of SOFIA PAPER ART FEST 2020, is a symbol of the long-standing mission and goals of this innovative and unique festival, which has contributed to the resentation of Bulgaria with various contemporary artists and turning the country into the host of the most important event for paper art around the world. Created by Amateras Foundation, it is a two–time winner of the European label for innovation, and it attracts thousands of people and artists from all over the world.
Once again, the festival will also be presented at the National Gallery through a key exhibition, and for the first time it is at Kvadrat 500.
The exhibition Impulse and Light invites us to enter another reality – one that is quiet and is inspiring respect for those worlds that speak to us and bestow us with their might. Let’s not forget to look for light – this is the underlying message. SOFIA PAPER ART FEST is part of the Cultural Events Calendar of Sofia Municipality for 2020.

National Student House
INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FILM FESTIVAL (IAFF) GOLDEN KUKER – SOFIA was first held in October, 2010 in Sofia and is the first festival dedicated to the animated films in Bulgaria from the 21st century. It takes place every spring in May and is one of the most attractive cultural events in Bulgaria!
The festival is a bridge between professionals from all over the world and manages to show the best of Bulgarian and world animation, striving to stimulate the creative activities of animators from all over the world.
IAFF GOLDEN KUKER – SOFIA plays a key role in the animation industry, as it is organized by animators who themselves produce animated films for people of different generations. Every year the festival focuses on environmental protection, and a traveling festival is also organized.

Atom Choreographic Series #4

This year Atom Choreographic Series # 4 will be held from September 5 to September 12 in Sofia. It will be dedicated to the local independent dance scene, and the main focus will be choreographers and dancers that develop and work in the field of contemporary dance in Bulgaria!
Atom Choreographic Series # 4 is part of the Cultural Events Calendar of Sofia Municipality. This is an international exchange platform where dancers, choreographers, managers, and producers in the field of contemporary dance can freely meet. It forms a dynamic place where all participants learn, collaborate, establish partnerships and experiment through different dance methods.

Ekiden Marathon 2020

start/finish line in front of Vasil Levski National Stadium
Around 100 teams are expected to take part in the 6 th edition of the relay marathon in Bulgaria - Sofia Ekiden Marathon. Traditionally, it is attended by some of the best athletes in the country in middle and long distance running, as well as by hundreds of sports lovers. The start/finish line will be in front of Vasil Levski National Stadium. The race is part of the initiative Sofia - European Capital of Sport and will be held on the national holiday - the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and the Province of Eastern Rumelia. Traditionally, the marathon is held under the patronage of the Embassy of Japan and this year it will mark 141 years since Bulgaria's first diplomatic relations with the world and 16 years since Bulgaria joined NATO. Teams from the embassies of Germany, Japan, South Africa, China, and other countries will take part in the event.

September 5-6, from 10:00 to 17:00 Young participants from various ensembles, formations and schools will show the beauty of folk songs, dances, folklore and creativity. Numerous children's educational workshops will reveal the secrets of traditional crafts and will introduce the kids to various applied arts. Children will be able to try playing a variety of musical instruments, create robots, do chemical experiments, and discover that math can be fun. In addition, a thematic bazaar will be held as part of SoFest 2020. SoFest 2020 will be held from September 4 to September 6. The festival will be held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova - Mayor of Sofia. Free entry.

Royal Affairs Kings and Queens of Opera

Cabana Cinema - NPC
On Sunday evening, the residents and guests of Sofia will have the opportunity to enjoy the work of the captivating Beloslva as well as Anthony Rikev-guitar and Rosen Zahariev-trumpet and percussion. Their music will flow from acoustic to chill out and funky sound. The repertoire will be original and well known to the audience that has been following Beloslava for twenty years. Most of the songs in the upcoming fifth studio album will be presented at SoFest 2020. On Sunday evening, the audience will also enjoy the performance "Paintings from an Exhibition" with choreographer Anna Pampulova. The original music of the beloved trio and the dance show will prove once again that life is actually a colorful melody. SoFest 2020 will be held from September 4 to September 6. The festival will be held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova - Mayor of Sofia. Tickets can be bought from the Eventim network.
