An exhibition Bulgarian Sign Language - full-fledged communication for everyone can be seen in the City Garden

The exhibition is organized by the Sofia Municipality, with the support of organizations for and of the deaf community, on the occasion of the International Week of the Deaf, which is celebrated from 19 to 25 September 2022. The exhibition aims to show the accessibility that Sofia Municipality provides in the administrative service of deaf and deaf-blind citizens, in accordance with the Law on Bulgarian Sign Language. It also presents projects related to the Bulgarian sign language and carried out by non-governmental organizations for and for the deaf community. The photographs are positioned in the City Garden next to the Ivan Vazov National Theater and will remain there until October 4th.

"The exhibition focuses on the dialogue between institutions and people with impaired hearing and makes these fellow citizens more visible to society. When we talk about the need for their fuller socialization and realization, we must not forget that they need support, our city also needs them, because Sofia needs the potential and opportunities of all its citizens," said Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.

A team of Sofia Municipality, led by the municipal councilor Ani Stoikova and with the active participation of the secretary Venera Milova, experts of the municipality together with the participation of organizations of people with impaired hearing worked actively on the introduction of administrative services.

The event was also attended by the deputy mayor of Sofia Albena Atanasova - Social activities and integration of people with disabilities, the chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council Georgi Georgiev, the municipal councilors Ani Stoikova, Nikolay Stoynev, the secretary of the Sofia Municipality Venera Milova.

Sofia Municipality is a partner of the Listen Up Foundation, as a beneficiary of the project "Conducting an advocacy campaign for the implementation of the Law on the Bulgarian Sign Language (BSL) at the local level" under Grant Agreement BG05SFOP001-2.025 with the subject: "Increasing citizen participation in the processes of implementation and monitoring of policies and legislation".
