Historical Information
Ariana lake is one of the best known spots in Sofia. Sofia residents, as well as visitors of the capital, select the location for walks and rest. Today, the lake and the nearby park have been restored and offer various leisure activities. Construction of the facility began shortly after Bulgaria gained its independence and ended in 1904. A bridge connecting the alleys to a small island was set up at that time. Shortly after, the lake turned into one of the most liked places in Sofia. In the 60s and the 70s, Ariana became one of Sofia's symbols. Thousands of people gathered there, especially during weekends.
Ariana is a medium-sized artificial lake in Park Borisova Gradina in Sofia. During the summer, visitors can enjoy the coolness of the lake in a boat and the winter offers ice skating opportunities. The spot offers different restaurants, a café and a spot for children’s entertainment. It is "B"-shaped, 175 m long and 75 m wide, with a small island at its narrowest point. It is located at the northernmost corner of the park, in the city centre, between the Eagles' Bridge and the Vasil Levski National Stadium.
