Embroidery in the History of the Zhenski Pazar Market – Serdica Gallery

From July 23 to August 29, 2020, Serdica Gallery will open its doors to the lovers of Bulgarian traditions and folklore with a non-traditional exhibition that will show the history of the Zhenski Pazar (Women's Market) Market through Bulgarian embroidery. The visitors will be able to see for the first time 27 embroidered sleeves, typical for the traditional women’s costumes of Sofia region.
The exhibition Embroidery in the History of Zhenski Pazar Market will tell us about the importance of the sleeve in Bulgarian costumes. The 27 embroidered sleeves that will be shown are authentic samples from the beginning of the 20th century with approximate size of 30x52 cm and are presented in a frame.
The guests of the exhibition will be able to see a reproduction of Anton Mitov's painting "Market in Sofia" from 1899, provided by Sofia City Art Gallery, as well as documents about the trade at Zhenski Pazar Market. Art cards, part of Zdravko Petrov's personal collection of Historical Routes of Sofia, will also be presented.
