Fridtjof Nansen (1861-1930) is a renowned Norwegian scientist, a explorer and a writer. In 1921 he was appointed the first high commissioner for refugees in the United Nations. He introduced the so-called Nansen passport which gave legal status and economical independence of hundreds of refugees.
